Marchesa Fall 2011 Collection

Marchesa is a brand specialising in high-end womanswear. Part of the couture collection, these Marchesa dresses from the Fal 2011 are some of my favourite designs. The deep reds and light beiges make this collection very romantic, and the lace adds to this. The red lace and chiffon full dress at the bottom is my favorite. The red is so lush in colour it seems almost like blood. This adds to the fact that I think the dresses are innocent and romantic, but the placing of lace is suductive and the blood red makes the dresses daring and dangerous.

Kartell Ghost Chairs

I have been a massive fan of Ghost Chairs since Kartell released them around 2005. My favorite is the Louis chair designed by Phillipe Stark. I chose to have these chairs in my restaurant as they are comfy and very modern, and I didn't want to use the traditional Moroccan design of orange and lots and lots of pattern, but instead sleek, cool, sophisticated, and a simple design.

The Lou Lou chair which I have chosen to be in my Moroccan restaurant.
The Victoria chair.

Samples

I looked at several wallpaper manufactures  for my Moroccan Themed restaurant - Shezan. Brit Walls have some really cool papers. The top one is very Chinese-esk (I didn't use any of these for design). My favorite is the branch paper design at the bottom.

Alessi

The design firm Alessi, founded in 1922 by the three Alessi brothers, has always been a favorite of mine ever since I was young. I think I was first drawn in by the playful take on household everyday items. The pieces are very colorful, crazy and always eye-catching. Alessi is generally seen as being post-modern, as there is a lot of stainless steel pieces/appliances.
For a Year 8 Design and Technology I based the design of clock on the person figure kitchen box (pictured below).
With designers such as Philippe Starck (Juicy Salif 1), Massimo Giacon (Mr Suicide 2) and Michael Graves (Kettle 3) designing limited pieces for the brand which brings an outside perspectives to the brand therefor rejuvenating the brand everytime a new designer is welcomed.  New designers create a fresh range of ideas, which boosts the brands image and widens the customer base.

Refurbishment of Kings Cross station, London

The rebursishment of the Grade I listed building has cost well over £400 million. The architect group designing the project - John McAslan and Partners - are planning it will be finished by the times the Olympics start in the summer. I'm not too keen of the purple which is displayed onto the design. It makes the area seem almost alien-esk. Maybe John McAslan wanted it to apear so, but to my opinion, it would have looked more asthetically pleasing if it was blue or a more organic colour. I initially thought that the new design would not fit well with the original brick building seen in the second picture, but to my surpirse they went together well. The old yellowish brick has been cleaned and looks new and modern, so even though there is a strong contrast, its looks aestehtically pleasing. The fact that the new design must suit the surrounding enviroment is a key point when designing.
As these are my own images, I was able to expeirince the space for myself, unlike many posts where I really like the design and wish I could be in the space.

Zizzi, Leeds

Went here yesterday. Was v busy! The space is very interesting - not your average Italian restaurant. Compared to the one in York, it's very bright and modern.

There is a large focus on nature; the stools appear as to be moss, and the beech trees in the corner near the kitchen add to this, and the partition running down the middle of the space represent trees too. The designer probably wanted to link the restaurant with the name of where is it situated in Leeds - 'The Light".

The kitchen and chefs are also very central to the space, creating the idea that everything is handmade and good for you. Also the quick pace of the working chefs create an upbeat tempo environment, which gives off positivity and happening, making the restaurant new and exciting.

ABC Kitchen, NewYork

This design of the restaurant in NY is ultra cool. The rustic feel makes it intriguing, and the modern touches, such as furniture and glass cabinet makes it diverse. The wooden sculptures are really cool and add to the rustic feel of the space.the space also feels very organic and eco-friendly. The menu is completely organic, which is quite a rare find in New York, which means it new and innvoative, and popular. Found on the BBC website.
